Crazy Cat Stamp of the Month Page

posted in: Layouts, Stamp of the Month, Workshops | 2

It’s only August but at Close To My Heart we’re already thinking about Halloween.  I will admit that Halloween is not my favourite thing.  My kids often ask for elaborate costumes and I have to talk them down to something more manageable.  You’d think I love creating special things for them to wear, but fall is the busiest time of the year for me!  I also don’t do a lot of scrapbooking for Halloween so this month’s stamp of the month was a bit more of a challenge for me.  I decided that I would do a more generic page for my class this Wednesday, but I ended up using Halloween photos anyway!  LOL.

I created the following page using one of the sketches at Scrapbook Challenges.  I loved the crisscross papers even though it turned out to be a bit of a challenge to make them fit.  Here’s my page:

I chose papers that were bright and fun and could be used for any occasion.  I purposely did not choose a pink because I wanted to focus more on the yellow on the kids’ costumes since that was a big part of my journaling.  My little rascal boy had wanted to be a robot so Mommy had found a good-sized box and painted it with a metallic silver paint (several coats!) and was just about ready to put the finishing touches on it when he decided that he didn’t want to be a robot after all, on the morning of Halloween.  (Sigh.)  He decided on a prince to match Arianna’s princess (which I’m pretty sure is the last girly costume I’ll ever see her in).  So I used my Cricut to make their crowns and the little emblem on Nathaniel’s sash.  They were both happy, thank goodness!

This layout could really be used for anything since you can stamp any number of sentiments or titles in that lovely bracket frame image below my photos.  Or, if you wanted, change the colours of papers you use and completely embrace the Halloween-ness of this stamp set.

I splattered some watercolour paint on the background, added some stitching to the Adventure Fundamental papers, stamped the cat in White Daisy pigment and added that fun clown hat.  The photo mat is popped up and I added a spot to slide in some hidden journaling.  Some gold sequins finished it off.  Here’s a couple of close up photos:

Hopefully this Halloween will be smooth for you and for me!  Feel free to email me about class this Wednesday if you’d like to come.

A Magical Convention

posted in: Events, Layouts | 0

It’s been far too long since I last posted but it shows that life has been busy and, to be honest, I’ve enjoyed the things that have taken me away from my blog.

Today’s layout is all about convention.  If you follow my Facebook page, you know I went to Disney World in Florida and had an amazing time, as I always do.  But this year, things were a bit different and this layout shows why.

I used only the items found in the Magical suite: paper, Complements and sequins.  I used #16 pattern from Make It From Your Heart Volume 2.

I’ve attended convention for 7 years and this was the first time I won an award.  I’m not sure which was more special, being recognized as third for Operation Smile donations, or winning the Canadian Team Sales award.  I had guessed the Operation Smile recognition, but I had NO idea about the sales award.  I’m so proud of my team for achieving this honour!

Here are a few close ups of the details of this layout.

The other fun part of the awards banquet is the chance to get dressed up!  I really don’t have any other opportunities throughout the year.  Our group looks pretty good!  🙂

Attending convention is just one small perk of being a consultant and I’m so grateful that my business (and my hubby, who encourages me) allows me to attend this super fun event.  I can’t wait to go to Salt Lake City next year!

Happy Times Thank You Card

This is it.  The last few hours to take advantage of the opportunity to get the gorgeous Happy Times paper and stamp set.  I have one more card to share with you.

Happy Time Thank You Card by Krista Ritskes #simplycreating

I used the May Recycle It Challenge at scrapbookchallenges.com to complete this card.  I loved the big circle in the middle.

I did some second generation stamping with the “forget” sentiment and instead of rolling the flowers, I sponged the ink on.  It gives them a nice soft look.  I also drew around the edges with the Gold Metallic Marker and added Gold Sequins and some Pink Enamel Gems.  The Thanks sentiment is from the A Thousand Thanks stamp set.  And, again, I am loving the gold foil.  See the little banner at the top left?  That’s part of the zip strip from one of the papers!

If you’ve already got a paper pack and stamp set in your hands, I know you’re going to love playing with it!  If not, pop over to my website and nab your own.

Happy Times Card: Oh, Yes You Can!

I have said it before, but the paper for this year’s National Scrapbooking Month, Happy Times, is the best so far!  I LOVE this paper packet and stamp set.  They’re so fun to work with and full of creative possibility.  And, to top it off, you can get the paper for free with a qualifying order.

I had the chance on Sunday afternoon to do some crafting.  I was just enjoying the chance to play with this paper and stamp set.  Since creating is a big part of my business, it was nice to be able to just create for the sake of creating.  Here is the first card I made:

I did some fun inking of the flowers on this card.  I inked them in Pomegranate, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper, then rolled them in Pomegranate again before stamping them.  It gives a lovely two-toned flower, without needing to get out more colours of ink.  The stems were stamped with Fern ink.  I also stamped the dots in third generation, meaning I stamped off twice on scrap paper before stamping them on my project, also using Pomegranate ink.  All the paper, except the White Daisy circle, came from the Happy Times paper pack.  I sponged all the edges with Slate ink to give it a soft look.  The sentiment is stamped in Slate, and comes from a brand new stamp set called Sunshine on a Cloudy Day.

I think my favourite part of this paper is gold foil touches on two of the patterns.  Here’s a close up of that yummy paper:Happy Times Encouragement close up by Krista Ritskes #simplycreating

I also added some Gold Sequins and Pink Enamel Gems.  And you can see here, that I popped the circle using Thin 3-D Foam Tape.

I used the sketch found at Sketch-N-Scrap for my inspiration.
